Research Agenda
Joint Action’s research programme has been devised by the eminent BOA Research Committee.
Following extensive discussion with other leading orthopaedic professional bodies such as the Bone and Joint Decade, the British Orthopaedic Research Society, the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the British Geriatrics Society, the International Society for Fracture Repair, the National Osteoporosis Society, the International Osteoporosis Foundation and other relevant bodies, it has published the Research Agenda.
This Research Agenda maps out the direction for orthopaedic research both nationally and internationally. By focusing on these priority areas, The British Orthopaedic Association, through its fundraising function, Joint Action will be able to achieve maximum potential from its research grants for the benefit of orthopaedic patients throughout the country.
The Joint Action Orthopaedic Research Appeal has been established to raise funds for the research programme from individuals, events, companies, charitable trusts and others. When sufficient funds have been raised, the Grants Committee puts out a Call for Applications to all UK based orthopaedic clinicians, surgeons and researchers.
The Grants Committee is comprised of eight eminent orthopaedic surgeons and researchers from a wide range of specialist areas. The Committee shortlists the applications which then undergo a rigorous internal and external peer review process to ensure that only the highest calibre of research is supported.
