BOA mentioned in Secret Millionaire's Will

A spinster Geography teacher from Sutherland, Scotland bequeathed £10,000 to the British Orthopaedic Association, which came to light recently.

Bettie Paul died in January and left £1,813,333, with the vast majority (£1.7m) going to the SSPCA (Scottish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) as she had a fondness for cats and lived with many of them.

Bettie’s fortune was built on years of managing a portfolio of stocks and shares but kept this quiet from all she knew and did not flaunt her wealth.

Peter Foy of Joint Action (the BOA’s research charity) said “Leaving a sum of money in your Will as a Legacy is a very effective means to help your chosen cause.  Many of us often feel cash poor but when we stop and think, we are, in fact, asset rich.

Over 38% of our income, in 2009, came from gifts like Miss Paul’s.  We will spend it according to her wishes so her name will live on forever and help keep people mobile.”
