The OrthocardTM, is the Joint Action membership card that has been endorsed by the Professional Practice Committee* of the British Orthopaedic Association in response to numerous patient requests.
Any patient in the UK who has undergone Orthopaedic Intervention, whether it be joint replacements or implants, can apply to receive a FREE, credit card-sized, personalised card to keep with them at all times.

Q: What are the implications of infection if I have to have any other surgery or dentistry?
The OrthocardTM provides vital information for Dentists and Doctors to help prevent the serious risks of infection, such as Antibiotic Prophylaxis. The card can also inform paramedics in the event of a serious injury, which needs prior knowledge of any previous implant.
Q: Am I going to go 'beep' at the airports or set off the alarms when I go shopping? **
The OrthocardTM can be used to show any border control staff (i.e. airports, ferry terminals etc), for ease of passing through security. The same applies to department stores and supermarkets. Your OrthocardTM will state where your joint replacement/implant is located as evidence and confirmation.

* The Professional Practice Committee of the British Orthopaedic Association fully supports the Joint Action OrthocardTM initiative and encourages members to sign up and distribute the OrthocardTM.
The OrthocardTM is seen by patients with implants as a valuable benefit in their aftercare, not only to alert the Paramedic services in the case of accidents, GPs or Dentists concerned with Antibiotic Prophylaxis or Airport security staff to facilitate passage through security checkpoints. It also serves as an easy point of reference for any future revision work for patient notes. There is the added benefit of being able to raise local funds for members’ own causes as well as contributing to the general research aims of Joint Action.
